Private Birding/Wildlife Outings
Private guided bird and wildlife outings for individuals or groups of any size and skill level. We can plan an outing to fit your interests. Tell me what you would like to see and I will do my best to accommodate, or let me design a customized high quality birding day for you and/or your group.
Rates for private guided outings:
Half-Day (4 hours) for 1-3 people $300 total; added charge of $30 per additional person over 3. Note: availability is very limited for Half-Day outings during peak spring migration (May).
Full Day (9 hours including meal break) for 1-3 people $450 total; added charge of $50 per additional person over 3.
Big Day (up to 14 hours including 2-3 short breaks for meals) for 1-3 people $600 total; added charge of $70 per additional person over 3.
The maximum rate for any private group size greater than ten is equal to the rate for ten participants.
Birds & Wildlife Group Outings
Scheduled day trips in the Point Pelee area! This region has great birds and wildlife opportunities at any time of the year. In order to maximize our success in viewing wildlife, group size is limited to six people.
Rates for individual sign-up group outings:
Half-Day (4 hours) $90 per person. Note: availability is currently limited for individual sign-up outings.
Full-Day (9 hours including meal break) $140 per person. Note: availability is currently limited for individual sign-up outings.
Availability will depend on whether others would like to sign up for this style of outing on the same date (minimum of two people must sign up in order for a Group Outing to run), and this is of course not as customizable as a private outing. If signing up with multiple people, or if you prefer a personalized itinerary with attention focused more specifically on your birding that day, it could be worthwhile to consider a private outing.
If you would like to book an outing or if you have any questions, please contact me.
Available for private day tour reservations for Summer/Fall/Winter 2024 and Spring 2025 (see above for pricing)
Please reach out if you would like to schedule a customized private outing. General availability below.
October 2024 – many dates open for reservations. Late peak fall migration… Lots of songbirds, raptors, shorebirds, and more. October is a very active time for bird migration, with much potential for high diversity throughout the month. The main transition of weather between summer and fall.
November 2024 – many dates open for reservations. Later fall migration… Songbirds, raptors, waterbirds, etc. Depending on weather, and conditions in the north, some days are very active for songbirds like sparrows, finches, etc., raptors like Golden and Bald Eagles, Red-tailed and Red-shouldered Hawks, and more on their way south, as well as many waterbirds.
December – March 2025 – open for reservations. Late fall and winter birding… Spectacular numbers of waterfowl, plus some hardy raptors and songbirds. While the diversity is not at its highest in the colder season, there are some specialties around that we do not see in the warmer months. Especially great for those interested in great views of a wide variety of waterfowl.
April – May 2025 – open for reservations. Peak spring migration… Point Pelee is famous for spring migration, but this is certainly not the only time of year for great birding! Many thousands of birders and birds visit Point Pelee’s Festival of Birds in the first three weeks of May, and there is (usually) enough space for all!
June/July 2025 – many dates open for reservations. Breeding season with a touch of summertime migration. Breeding birds, small numbers of migrant songbirds and shorebirds. Mid-summer is a time to get excellent views of the many local breeding birds while they stay close to their nesting territories to raise their young. Lots of interesting insects like dragonflies and butterflies, and the area feels somewhat tropical.
August 2025 – many dates open for reservations. Late breeding season and early peak fall migration… Breeding and migrant songbirds, shorebirds, etc. In August we see spectacular numbers of southbound swallows, and the first significant pulses of southbound migrant songbirds and shorebirds. Lots of interesting insects like dragonflies and butterflies.
September 2025 – many weekdays open for reservations, most weekend dates not available. Peak fall migration… Lots of songbirds, raptors, shorebirds, and more. September is perhaps the most consistently active month of the year for migrant birds in the region. Lots of interesting insects like dragonflies and butterflies, including the peak of migration for the iconic Monarch.
There are plenty of trails and locations to explore in the Point Pelee Area, and the area should be busy with a wide variety of migrant birds through the spring (mid-April through May) and fall migration (mid-August through October) seasons. For the very ambitious birders who want to get the most out of a day in the Point Pelee area, a Big Day during the peak of spring migration has high potential for well over 100 species. If we are really keen we can probably hit 100+ in one efficient Full Day too. If you prefer to focus on certain aspects of birding like photography, warblers, shorebirds, general diversity, etc. we can plan for that. Nearly all trails in the area are very easy for hiking, and I am happy to do my best to accommodate for any mobility limitations. All times of day are great for birding here during migration, including evening, and there are some fantastic nearby locations outside of Point Pelee National Park that can be worth visiting in a day of birding too.
